Nursing Assistant: Sivuyile, Ref No. DSD 69/2021

The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to provide quality elementary nursing services under the supervision of a Professional Nurse within the scope of practice as defined by the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and Charter of Nursing Practice. This post is stationed at Sivuyile.

Minimum Requirements

Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification, plus one-year Nursing Assistant Certificate that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC); Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nursing Assistant.

Key Performance Areas

Assist patients with the following activities: Daily living (physical care): Maintain hygiene of patient; Provide nutrition; Mobility; Elimination processes; Provide elementary clinical nursing care: Measure, interpret and record vital signs; Operate all relevant apparatus and equipment; Assist professional nurses with clinical procedures (i.e. administering of intramuscular injections); Preparation of patients for diagnostic and surgical procedures; Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self development: To maintain the code of conduct as required in the Public Service and by the Professional Body; Seek learning opportunities, i.e. in-service training, courses.

Competencies

Knowledge of the following: Nursing care processes and procedures, nursing statutes; Nursing Act; Health Act; Occupational Health and Safety Act; Patient Rights Charter; Batho-Pele principles; Public Service Regulations; Labour Relations Act; Disciplinary code and procedure; Grievance procedure act; Written and verbal communication skills; Elementary facilitation and writing skills; Ability to function as part of a team and independently; Basic interpersonal skills.

Remuneration

Grade 1: R 132 525 - R 149 163 per annum; Grade 2: R 156 846 - R 176 526 per annum; Grade 3: R 187 263 - R 230 307 per annum (OSD as prescribed) Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
